Rising R&B vocalist Jawan has officially released “Fresher Than Us,” his second single since joining the Epic Records roster earlier this year. The new ballad is available now across all major digital streaming platforms.
Following the success of his SWV-inspired lead single, “Always On My Mind” featuring SIS, Jawan continues to display his deft ability to flip classic melodies for contemporary audiences. “Fresher Than Us” draws direct sonic inspiration from Outkast’s iconic 2001 hit “So Fresh, So Clean.” Jawan seamlessly transitions the legendary hip-hop rhythm into a smooth, romantic R&B space, utilizing the track to celebrate the undeniable chemistry of a new relationship.
“They should’ve never let us link up, we are getting fresher,” he sings on the record. “And ain’t nobody fresher than us.”
Beyond the nostalgic production, “Fresher Than Us” reinforces Jawan’s commitment to prioritizing traditional R&B pillars—specifically strong songwriting, melody, and unapologetic emotional depth. As a vocal admirer of the 1990s R&B era, he is actively utilizing his debut Epic Records campaign to champion vulnerability among male artists, a trait he notes has been deemphasized in recent musical eras.
“You know, it’s already scary for us to be vulnerable, because it’s easy to be labeled as emotional or soft,” Jawan explained. “I think the toughest thing for men to do is to have that outlet.”
The release of “Fresher Than Us” capitalizes on a steady build in industry momentum for the singer. At the close of 2025, Jawan secured a high-profile feature on “I WISH,” the closing track of 21 Savage’s album WHAT HAPPENED TO THE STREETS?. He subsequently parlayed that fanfare into viral success earlier this year when his cover of SWV’s “You’re Always On My Mind” laid the groundwork for his formal debut era.
By prioritizing emotional candor and elite vocal arrangements, Jawan is rapidly constructing a distinct world for modern R&B listeners to step into.
“Fresher Than Us” is available to stream and download now.
