R&B singer-songwriter Jack Freeman has officially returned with his latest single, “Me and You,” serving as the lead offering from his highly anticipated forthcoming album, Mahogany. Distributed by Jive Records, the track features the elite production and songwriting talents of GRAMMY Award-winner Bryan-Michael Cox and GRAMMY-nominated producer Donnie Scantz.
Co-written by Freeman and Cox, and produced by Cox alongside Scantz, “Me and You” transforms personal heartbreak and deep reflection into a vulnerable exploration of romance. Thematically, the track advocates for stepping away from the noise and expectations of the outside world to focus entirely on building a genuine, lasting connection.
Sonically, the production is anchored by a masterful manipulation of Glenn Lewis’ classic R&B track “Never Too Late,” providing a nostalgic yet fresh foundation for Freeman’s emotive vocal delivery.
Reflecting on the real-life inspiration behind the deeply personal single, Freeman shared the following insight into his creative process:
“Watching someone who had been a major part of my life move forward forced me to confront emotions I had not fully processed. ‘Me and You’ is vulnerable, but it is also aspirational because it speaks to my desire for clarity, connection and lasting joy with the right person. The way Bryan chopped the Glenn Lewis sample helped shape that feeling and led us toward a simple solution: get away from everybody and everything for a moment and focus on who we are together.”
