The soulful Nashville chanteuse, Kandace Springs, returns with a brand new album, her third for Blue Observe, on March 27th, known as ‘The Ladies Who Raised Me.’ Its title refers back to the feminine singers that influenced have Springs and whose songs she covers on the album: they vary from jazz goddesses Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Vacation, Nina Simone, Diana Krall and Carmen McRae to soul sirens Sade, Dusty Springfield, and Roberta Flack. Springs additionally pays tribute to blues doyenne, Bonnie Raitt, and bossa nova queen, Astrud Gilberto.
Explains Kandace: “That is an album I have been eager to make ceaselessly. It actually expresses my love for all of those singers and gratitude for what they gave me. Every taught me one thing totally different and all of these classes mixed to make me who I’m now.”
A single from the album, a dreamy, nocturnal cowl of Sade’s ‘Pearls,’ is out now. ‘The Ladies Who Raised Me’ follows on March 27.
