Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter, and producer Tone Stith has officially released his debut studio album, The Edge, via MNRK Music Group. The 10-track project arrives following the widespread success of its lead single, “Fly,” which recently secured Stith his first career number-one placement on both the Billboard Adult R&B Airplay and Mediabase Adult R&B charts.
Long recognized as a formidable behind-the-scenes force, Stith has previously penned tracks for high-profile artists including Chris Brown, H.E.R., and Victoria Monét, amassing hundreds of millions of streams globally. With The Edge, he transitions fully into a solo headlining capacity, delivering a project that explores themes of defiance, self-discovery, and faith.
The album’s narrative arc spans from the leap-of-faith opening title track to the prayerful acoustic closer, “Better Days.” The tracklist also includes thematic explorations of love and accountability on records like “Pageant Stage” and “Back Around,” alongside declarations of independence on “Shut Up” and “I Quit.”
“When people hear this album, I want them to feel free. I want them to feel triumphant,” Stith said in a statement regarding the release. “Through all the battles and trials we go through in life, it’s about staying resilient and continuing to show up… What I want this album to do for the world is give people the soundtrack to take that leap of faith.”
The launch of The Edge was heavily propelled by “Fly,” a single Stith described as a creative and personal “reset.” The track’s dominance on urban adult contemporary radio was further amplified when it received public praise from legendary musician Stevie Wonder—a milestone Stith characterized as one of the most surreal moments of his career.
The album is already generating positive critical reception within the genre’s media space. R&B publication ThisIsRnB noted that the project is “a powerful reminder of why his pen and unmistakable vocals continue to resonate,” while YouKnowIGotSoul highlighted the new era as “a move away from standard industry formulas in favor of more intentional, honest songwriting.”
To support the new release, Stith recently launched The Edge live experience. Following a multi-night, packed-house residency at the legendary Blue Note Jazz Club in Los Angeles in mid-May, he is scheduled to bring the show to Blue Note New York today, May 21, featuring dual performances at 8:00 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.
